Yes, we know that India is having its 70th Independence Day celebrations in Goa – that’s where all the long weekenders are currently having a blast. So, a must-do — and you would be so not haute if you didn’t –visit Koi. A superbly stylish Asian fine-dining destination that has all the right ingredients to make an awesome night out with friends, family or lovers (including the we-are-just-friends types). Lady of the manor, so to speak, Shefali Gandhi knows a great deal on being a gracious, generous host and if  you have keen ears, will share menu tips and fashion finds around town.

So, I’m going to do less of the talking and get straight to the feast of the senses. Mind you, I’m known to be nit-picking and picky with food, so this was a treat:

Koi Asian Dining signature dishes:

Koi Khowsuey

koispecial1

A Burmese delicacy presented in a signature platter with 13 condiments, varying from burnt garlic to peanuts. Available in both vegetarian and non vegetarian versions. I decided non-vegetarian suits me best.

Thai Steamed Red Snapper

koispecial3

koispecial2

Slow steamed to give a broth full of aroma, and bursting with flavours of freshness coming from lemon grass, kaffir lime and a lot of Thai herbs that can be eaten over rice. The simplicity of this dish and the flavours is what makes it a Koi signature and a popular in demand gourmet checklist.

Koi Asian Dining signature drinks:

While a great Single Malt will get me going and conversation flowing, plenty of conversation flowed at the table with these starlets.

Rossini

koispecial4

Chandon with raspberries and Crème de Framboise. Fruity, bubbly and heady.

The Watermelon Martini

koispecial5

Fresh watermelons muddled and shaken in Vodka & Campari. A throaty after-taste lingers on, but a great conversation starter. That’s if you’re not bringing the house down already.

So, with all the fine eateries littered around Goa – and there are enough in North Goa to write a book on – what thought goes into designing a Koi menu, I ask Shefali.

“The menu at Koi Asian Dining  revolves around the silk route of Asia.  It is uniquely designed keeping the appetite of our customers in mind and what they would like to experiment and try with different Asian cuisines.” High on flavours, the nostalgia – if you are a savvy world traveller and have done quite a bit of the South Asian cuisine – the curious wanting to try anything atleast once, or a well developed trained palate that comes with taste, experience and understanding world exotic food. Koi leaves its own signature of design, decor and a sense of Zen fills your well-being (or, is it the heady Rossini?!!), that makes you sink into several cushions nursing a Cognac (real women need some muscle for the mind’s heavy lifting), and counting your blessings. It is the Goa state of mind before the harried city noise…And yes, before I forget, since Goa loves footfall with a frenzy that beats a beehive, Koi also designed a special FC Goa inspired Sushi (Goa’s own favourite ISL hometeam) that soon became a hit with the boys and national headlines. As they say in Goa after a good time or drink has been had, Viva!!
