Adopting a new place has never been a head-banging task for me. We are all travellers on this Planet and the Earth is one big place for the wanderlust-ers. So, where-ever the hat finds resting, the Universe has found me happy souls and told me which ones to avoid. The one that I continue to celebrate, is my own Goan community far-flung as they are across continents.
Hence, this was one peppy Press conference. A deja-vu with an almost hippish, trance looking shack-venue complete with colour and psychedelics, and a unexpected meeting of old friends with ample opportunity to make new ones.

President, Goan Outreach Associations, Mr Sebastian A Sequeira is a man on a mission to promote the culture, ethos and music of Goa across communities in Mumbai. He says, “This is a first on a mega scale in Mumbai for all lovers of Goa and Konkani music to promote and showcase our rich language, music and culture across age groups and communities. The music of Goa is essentially the Soul of Goa,” he adds.
Prepped up and raring to go is a line-up of Goan talent and musicians, bridging musical genres of the Golden Era with new-age Goan hip-hop, popular melodies and original musical content. Headlining the concert is Goa’s own nightingale, Lorna, in performance with popular Goan stars Allan Vaz, Oluv Rodrigues, featuring two new voices of Shunaina Baptista, and Ancy Gonsalves. The cherry on this pie is the effervescent Rita Rose, who I listened to growing up in the Middle East as my father played tape after tape of the duo (Rita is wife of the evergreen, Alfred Rose) at every family gathering. Rita will perform a selection of her yesteryear hits, so some major nostalgia guaranteed.
In a new format of musical performances, Tobby Fernandes (winner of Jhalak Dhiklaa Jaa) will showcase choreographed dance sequences to Konkani music, hosted ably by Engelbert Rose.
Having met the merry bunch of Marcellus Baptista, Francis D’Souza, Narendra Kusnur, Team G.O.A and others at the launch event, I’m already looking forward to share and show solidarity with our Goan brethren in amchi Mumbai. I think it will be fun. What about you? Have you got your tickets yet?
