The MAN OF THE MOMENT — with a celebrity guest list that reads the `Who’s Who’ glam puss of the Planet — has been racking up a storm in Mumbai. Ever since Hollywood’s celebrated Make-Up artist, Donald Simrock smitten by the sights, smells, colours and creative opportunities he saw in India during his PRO Make-Up Master Classes at BHI Academy (Bandra), decided that India would be his `IT’ 2016 stop-over for a soul expansion, the glamour industry simply cannot seem to have enough of him.

Unassuming, cool, head on his shoulders, unruffled in stress as he is prompt and a thorough professional (and a gentleman) with commitment to deadlines – I know having worked closely with Simrock and breaking the media story of his lust wish to makeover Priyanka Chopra —  Hollywood’s favourite make-up magic man known for his powerful beauty, high glamour and fashion work with celebrity clients like Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Eva Mendes, Lindsay Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Cindy Crawford, Kate Upton, Pink, Nicki Minaj, has left no brush unturned dressing the faces of Mumbai’s A-listers, supermodels, designers, fashion weeks and Bollywood celebrity lining up for his brushstrokes. And Simrock wields them perfect. 5 odd Indian fashion magazine covers under his belt, his latest acquisitions added to the list has been the star team of `Befikar.’ Unstoppable, travelling all over the country and `Alive’ is what India does for Donald Simrock, he confesses.

Finally matching our work schedules together, Simrock made time to chat with me of his new experiences in India and the learnings from it.  It had to be a rapid-fire as the man is a `catch,’ but hard to pin down.

So, here goes.

Indian Covers with the Donald Simrock signature

ED: What make-up trend have you been seeing since you came to India in June?

DS: The recurring theme we saw most for Winter Festive 2016 was Illumination, which was also Lakme’s season statement. This was achieved primarily through the skin, with a perfected glow. Lots of luminous highlights, bronzed glowing cheeks, and glimmering shadows!

ED: Which colour defines Indian make-up?

DS: I think it’s more about a texture which defines Indian make-up rather than a color. Metallic shimmers are always in fashion here in India! Anything from earth tones to jewel tones are fair game. As I have always enjoyed beautiful metallic pigments myself, I definitely feel right a home with this!!

ED: How has India shaped your outlook and learnings specific to professional work and personal growth?

DS:  In terms of the make-up industry itself, and where beauty standards are concerned, I think it’s an exciting time to be in India. So much is changing, and people are becoming more adventurous when it comes to make-up. On a personal level, having taken a leap of faith to explore new territories, has become such a blessing. I feel alive here, and look forward to every experience as they present themselves. Such an amazing place to dive into and to learn from. I love this country!!

ED: 5 designers you have loved working with:

DS: Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra, Shantanu and Nikhil, Tulsi Silks, Rajesh Pratap Singh

ED: Indian actors transformed  your magic brush:

DS: Shraddha Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor, Kalki, Sussanne Khan

But his most favourite of all, remains elusive. Here’s hoping Donald’s Priyanka Chopra lust-wish comes true soon. Is Piggy Chops reading?
